Research/Background

Streamlining reduces drag on an object, as seen in Figure 53 for 2D geometries. Laminar flow is maintained along the shape and drag is reduced by including a tail that tapers gradually. If the 2D shapes on the bottom row of Figure 53 were revolved about their horizontal axis, it would result in a 3D teardrop shape. This teardrop shape will be considered for the shape of the fairing.
